Exploring STEM and Its Relation to Specific Learning Disabilities

Abstract

STEM education is critical in preparing future generations for global challenges. However, implementing STEM education for students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia presents unique challenges. This study uses a qualitative approach with case studies, interviews, classroom observations, and literature reviews to explore practical strategies to support SLD students in STEM education. Key strategies identified include using assistive technology, differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and emotional and motivational support. While these strategies show high effectiveness—project-based learning (85%) and emotional support (90%)—they also face implementation challenges such as high costs, the need for personalized materials, extensive planning, and continuous teacher support. The findings suggest that a combination of these strategies can enhance the participation and success of SLD students in STEM education, emphasizing the need for inclusive and differentiated teaching approaches.
